HOW IT WORKS
A DEPOIL TS plant consists in a vibrated reinforced concrete tank, engineered and dully tested from our project team. The space inside the tank is conveniently arranged in intermediate septums, that trigger both sedimentation of heavy particles (providing sand removal) and flotation of the light ones (providing oil separation). This last is accomplished due to conveniently interposed coalescing packs that enlarge the contact area enhancing separation of floating substances.
The first compartment carries out just the function of collecting first flush rainwater and removing the sand. Its capacity is 6 mc.
Within 48 hours after the meteoric event, a submersible pump lifts the first flush rainwater to the second compartment where the oils are separated from the water. Coalescing packs provide a suitable surface for oil droplets to meet and grow, or coalesce, into larger ones. As oil droplets size grows, buoyancy of the droplets increases. The droplets rise upward until they get entrapped on the water surface while oil-separated water is drained out through a special pipe that draws water from the bottom of the tank.
Since the above mentioned coalescing packs have a large specific surface, the tank volume may be around 10 times smaller than the volume generally suggested from technical manuals either from API standards.
